Roaring success

Each year, the Fire Service is called out to over 600,000 fires in the home and thousands more at business premises. There are, of course, many different causes of fire but the number caused deliberately is still at a worrying level with local authority premises and schools amongst the most vulnerable premises.

One local company is helping to lead the fight against major fire damage, particularly in our schools, with a new form of sprinkler system. Ultra Safe Fire Solutions uses a water mist system which, although it uses much smaller quantities of water, employs it much more effectively.

Misting produces micron size water droplets that are more effective in extinguishing fires than traditional sprinkler system droplets. Dividing water into smaller droplets increases its surface area and consequently, the rate at which it absorbs heat also increases. This causes the fire zone to become cooler sooner.

The Enterprise Hub has helped Ultra Safe, who are based in Hastings, by providing introductions to local companies as well as introducing it to the new Product Development Centre, recently opened at the Innovation Centre in St Leonards.
