Revolutionary new microscope launched
East Sussex-based Vacuum Systems-Microanalysis Ltd (VSL) has been working with Oxford University to develop a revolutionary microscope, capable of characterising the chemical composition of surface materials. The new system is able to provide a complete list of the chemical bonds present on any studied surface and their absolute quantity.
The microscope analyses the distribution of chemicals on a sampled surface and provides a chemical map for further analysis and study. The breakthrough in the new design enables sample composition and surface mapping to be done simultaneously – which speeds up the analysis process dramatically. In addition, because the analysis methods are carried out simultaneously, it reduces any likely experimental errors.
VSL is now looking for new applications for its instrument and more information is available by visiting the company's website.
